Sekihara Sae is the elder twin sister of Sekihara Tae (the manager of the Akabeko in Tokyo). She runs a similar restaurant, called the Shirobeko, in Kyōto.
Appearance[]
Sae is an attractive young woman with short brown hair tied in a bun at the nape of her neck and covered with a handkerchief, though her bangs curl out over the sides of her brow and are accompanied by two thin strands of hair at the sides of her face. In the anime, her eyes are large and brown. As she is always seen at the Shirobeko, Sae is most frequently observed dressed in her hostess uniform.
Personality[]
Sae seems to have a similar personality as her sister Tae: As a successful hostess and manager, Sae possesses a markedly positive and upbeat personality, more often donning a smile than not. She is very accommodating and eager to do whatever is in her power to aid her friends and customers. A smart and capable businesswoman, Sae is able to read people and situations rather astutely in business and her relationships.
Relationships[]
- Sekihara Tae - Tae is Sae's younger twin sister, who lives in Tokyo managing a similar restaurant, called the Akabeko.
- Mr. Sekihara - Sae's father, they must be close and caring towards each other.
- Kenshingumi - Sae acts as an ally of the Kenshingumi when they arrive at Kyōto.
Abilities[]
As the Shirobeko's manager, Sae is presumably a skilled cook, hostess, and businesswoman.
History[]
In the manga and anime at the Kyōto Arc, Sae played a supporting role when the Kenshingumi traveled to Kyōto to stop Shishio.
Kyōto Arc[]
When Kaoru (alongside Yahiko) decide to go to Kyōto to follow Kenshin, Tae writes a letter to her sister Sae asking her to receive them at the Shirobeko.
When Kamiya Kaoru and Myōjin Yahiko arrive in Kyōto, in search of Kenshin (who is in pursuit of Shishio Makoto), they decide to stay at the Shirobeko, where they work. Sae lets Kaoru hang a "Wanted" poster (with Kenshin's information) at the Shirobeko in hopes that will help Kaoru find Kenshin. When Makimachi Misao comes in the Shirobeko, she informs them that Kenshin stayed with her for a while, before leaving and they ultimately find Kenshin with his master Hiko Seijūrō XIII.
After the battle with Shishio ends, the Kyōto Oniwabanshū and Kenshingumi come to lodge in the Shirobeko during the reconstruction of the Aoiya, and for a few weeks, the group celebrates continuously over their victory in her establishment (much to her dismay and Masukami's worry), before Kenshin's full recovery and consciousness.
