Kaita is a member of the Sanada Ninja clan.

Appearance[]

Kaita has long black hair tied in a ponytail, long eyebrows, brown eyes, and a large nose.

Kaita wears a blue gi over mesh armor, a black sash around his waist, grey pants, black socks, and sandals.

Personality[]

Kaita is very loyal to the Sanada, so much so that he's willing to protect the clan's interests even from its leader's errors in judgment. He is even willing to help Kenshin and the others, to stop Misanagi. He also exhibits traits of nobility, as he saves Lentz' life, despite him having killed some of his fellow crew members, having tried to kill Myōjin Yahiko and Yutaro and despite being a narrow-minded bigot, who looks down on Japanese.

Relationships[]

  • Sanada Clan: Kaita is a loyal member of the clan.
  • Misanagi: Kaita is a servant of Misanagi, but will disagree with her if she plans to take the clan the wrong path.

Abilities[]

Kaita is very skilled in the art of Ninjutsu. Despite losing to Lentz' in their first battle, the caution and care he displays in the second battle reveals that he is in fact far superior to Lentz, as he is able to render him unconscious with ease, despite his arm injury.

History[]

Black Knights Arc[]

After he and his crew retreat after a battle with Himura Kenshin and the Oniwabanshū (lead by Makimachi Misao) he openly voices his opposition to the clan leader's (Misanagi) decision to hand over their most sacred treasure, the Divine Elixir, over to a group of European freemasons, called the Black Knights. The Black Knights then attack Kaita and his crew, leaving all of them dead except Kaita who is left fatally wounded by second Lieutenant Lentz.

Later on, he is saved by Tsukayama Yutarō, thanks to his knowledge of medicine, via studies in Germany and he helps the Kenshin-gumi and the Oniwabanshu thwart the plans of Misanagi and the Black Knights, who later betray her and try to murder her. Despite having disobeyed Misanagi and disagreeing with her having associated with the Black Knights, he still refers to her as Okashira and tries to pull her away from the danger. Misanagi realises her error in trusting the Black Knights (except second Lieutenant Schneider who risks his life to save her).

In a second battle with Lentz, he is easily able to defeat him, splitting his sword in two using a Wakizashi (small Japanese blade), despite his right arm being unusable due to the injury inflicted on him by Lentz the first time they fought. After defeating him, he saves Lentz' life and helps Misanagi escape from the inferno that has resulted from the battle between Meldars and Kenshin. Later on, he continues serving the Sanada.
