Gasuke ( () (すけ) ?) is one of the head officers in Tanishi's yakuza group, and often the man who had to deal with Myōjin Yahiko before the latter refused to be Tanishi's puppet.

Appearance[]

Gasuke is a tall man with black hair (brown hair in the anime), thin eyebrows, wrinkles on his forehead, and line on each side of his nose.

Gasuke wears a kimono with a black belt, white socks, and sandals. Gasuke also carries a katana, and a guard around his waist.

Personality[]

Gasuke is an arrogant person. If he feels that he has been disrespected, Gasuke will get angry and quick to attack such person.

Relationships[]

  • Tanishi - Gasuke is respectful to Tanishi, the yakuza boss.
  • Myōjin Yahiko - Yahiko had the lowest rank in the Tanishi yakuza group, so Gasuke was abusive to him. Whenever Yahiko showed any disrespect, Gasuke was quick to beat him.

Abilities[]

Gasuke is quite skilled at Kenjutsu as he easily defeats Kamiya Kaoru, who is the assistant instructor of the Kamiya Dōjō However, he is absolutely no match for Kenshin, who easily defeats him in combat.

History[]

Gasuke only appears in one manga chapter of the series.

Tokyo Arc[]

Fed up with the boy's stubbornness and pride, Gasuke frequently resorted to violence in order to force Yahiko to comply with his wishes, dealing out vicious beatings in his boss' stead. After Yahiko bites him in the groin to repay an insult to his parents' name, Gasuke draws his sword in vengeance, but is interrupted and swiftly defeated by Himura Kenshin, who convinces Tanishi to let Yahiko go free.

Trivia[]

  • The interactions of Gasuke are quite different from the original manga and the 1996 anime:
    • In the original manga, Gasuke is the one who insults Yahiko's parents. As result, Yahiko bites him in the groin. This is portrayed different in the 1996 anime, where other thug insults Yahiko's mother, to which Yahiko responds by kicking him in the groin.
    • In the original manga, when Kenshin enters to the yakuza headquarters, he knocks the door off, trapping Gasuke behind it. In the 1996 anime Kenshin still knocks the door off, but Gasuke is not near it.
