An aerial view of the Kamiya Estate

In the context of this Wiki, the term Kamiya Dōjō (also known as the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū Dōjō) refers to the Kamiya Estate, which is a fairly-sized, hereditary kenjutsu Dōjō and Residence in Tokyo owned by the Kamiya family.

History[]

Its ownership of the Kamiya Estate goes back at least three generations to the father of Kamiya Koshijiro, who used it as a base of operations for his kenjutsu school as well as his interest in ink painting. The school was passed on to Koshijiro, who used to found the kenjutsu style of Kamiya Kasshin-ryū, but when Koshijiro was drafted into the Seinan wars, the ownership of the Dōjō fell to his young and talented daughter Kamiya Kaoru.

Though membership in the Dōjō has fallen significantly since its peak, after the rurouni Himura Kenshin took up residence there with Kaoru, it serves as home and gathering point for various members of the group calling themselves unofficially the Kenshingumi. As such, it is the scene of many of the series' events and has sustained repeated damage from various threats including the Hishimanji Guren Gang, the Oniwabanshū, the Shinko-ryū, Saitō Hajime and the Six Comrades.

Layout[]

The Kamiya Estate is a big corner piece land in downtown Tokyo, that has several buildings on it. Both streets adjacent to the residence are wide dirt roads. The residence has high enclosures and two entrances: a main one (pointing to the residencie) and a side one (pointing to the Dōjō per se).

In the free space between the different buildings of the Kamiya Estate, there are several big trees.

Distribution[]

The Kamiya Estate has several buildings like:

Residence[]

The Kamiya residence per se. It has several rooms (allegedly a room for Kamiya Kaoru, another one for Himura Kenshin, another one for Myōjin Yahiko and others). It also has a frontal room with a table where the residents usually eat meals.

The Kamiya Estate main entrance is the one that points at the Residence.

Bathroom[]

The Kamiya residence has at least one bathroom, which is separated by the residence. Infamously, soon after Kenshin and Kaoru met, Kenshin accidentaly watched Kaoru taking a bath because he was worried when he heard her cry.

Kendo Dōjō[]

The Dōjō per se, it's a big hall with wooden floor, where students train the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū. Inside it has a back central shrine, and the Dōjō walls have wooden plaques with the names of the Kamiya Kasshin-ryū students past and present.

Warehouse[]

The Kamiya Estate has a warehouse in the back side. Early in the story Kaoru locked Kenshin in the warehouse as punishment for walking in on her. while she was bathing. Later on the story, Kaoru remembered that her grandfather made some paintings, and searched for them on the warehouse. She found one and sold it to go to eat.
