Cross-Shaped Scar is the one hundred fifty-second chapter of the Rurouni Kenshin manga.
Synopsis[]
On a rather warm day, Kenshin trains with Yahiko as Sanosuke watches, cooling himself off with a fan. Ever since Kenshin's return from Kyoto, he's been helping Yahiko excel in his skills daily. Training is abruptly ended when Kaoru calls Yahiko, reminding him that it's time to go to his job at the Akabeko. Yahiko heads off with Kaoru, who tags along, just to visit Tae and Tsubame. Sanosuke leaves as well, since it's about time he had his right hand checked upon by Megumi.
At the Oguni Clinic, Sanosuke brings up the subject that Kenshin seems more settled down than before as his bandages are changed for his right hand. Megumi is somewhat pleased to hear that, but is a bit curious of Kenshin's cross scar as she finishes up. She mentions that Doctor Oguni told her a superstition saying that if someone attaches strong feelings to a scar caused by a sword, as long as one carries those feelings, the scar will not disappear.
Meanwhile in the Kyoto graveyard, a mysterious figure approaches the grave Kenshin visited before his return to Tokyo. He is dressed in Chinese clothing, has silver hair, is wearing rather small glasses, and is carrying a wrapped object on his back. The figure looks down at the flowers placed by the grave and crushes them with his foot. Behind him is Iwanbō, who informs the silver-haired figure that Battousai goes by the name of Kenshin and the "other four" went off to Tokyo separately without waiting. The figure doesn't seem disturbed, he just asks Iwanbou if Battousai still has the cross scar to which Iwanbou answers positively. Thus, the figure changes directions and claims his next is now Tokyo with "a skull-masked Bunraku puppeteer who breaks out of Iwanbou".
