Synopsis[]
Anji explains the reason why he is fighting: to avenge the death of 5 orphan children he used to take care of severeal years ago as a peaceful monk. Anji's backstory is explained, and his tragedy is revealed. What happened to such a kind and peaceful monkn and the children in the Bakumatsu? Is such a reason powerful enough to fuel Anji's desire for revenge?

This chapter has several differences with other portrayals of the events of the story in different iterations of the franchise:
Differences with the 1996 anime[]
- In the original manga, the flashback scenes of peaceful Anji with the 5 orphans take place on summer. As a result, the youngest of the orphans has only a t-shirt as clothing so his genitals are always exposed. This is censored in the anime, where the flashback events take place on winter, and everyone has enough clothing.
